Coffee, Avocado and Banana Smoothie – perfect pre or post workout drink

I know, I know, you’re probably raising your eyebrows at this Coffee Smoothie. It’s the coffee and avocado, isn’t it? I must confess, when I first thought about this concoction, I wasn’t too sure about it either. Coffee and banana, yes. Avocado and banana, yes. But coffee and avocado? You just need to drink it to believe it!

Coffee, Avocado and Banana Smoothie

Yummy Coffee Smoothie

Let me describe the flavour to you. Interestingly enough, you can taste all three of them, individually, as well as in symphony. It’s a thick, creamy drink, given the avocado in the mix.

Beyond that, there is a very strong smoky flavour in this coffee smoothie, and what’s intriguing, is that this comes not just from the coffee, but also the banana. Have you ever noticed a touch of smokiness about the good old banana? Well, in this drink, the coffee emphasizes that aroma.

And because of the banana, the smoothie is naturally sweet. If you’d like it sweeter, a teaspoon of honey should do the trick.

Coffee Smoothie Recipe

You can use any kind of milk you like; make it dairy free and use your favourite non dairy milk, whether it’s soy milk or almond. Or whatever!

As far as the coffee is concerned, espresso is best for this, preferably cool or cold but if it’s freshly made, the ice cubes should chill that right down. If you’re an instant coffee kind of person, that will work just as well.

Caffeine in this coffee smoothie is a great metabolism booster. Pre workout, it’ll help you get just that much more out of your routine and post, well, we might as well get that metabolism up for as long as we can.

Protein Powder and Creatine

It is up to you whether to add some protein powder and/or creatine to this coffee smoothie. I always add one serving of protein powder to all my smoothies as I’m a big believer in the power of consuming protein.

Creatine and I have never got along, so that’s something I don’t bother with, but my late husband swore by it.

So if you are always on the look out for new smoothie flavours, give this one a shot. You are going to love it!

Right then, shall we get our aprons on? Or workout gloves, whatever rocks your boat!

I believe in the deliciousness of the smoothie. On a recent vacation one of my favorite adult beverages combined coffee and bananas and it was dreamy. Good to know I can reminisce on the same flavors for breakfast.

  10. Such an unusual smoothie! As you say, banana and avocado has become a fairly well-known combination but coffee definitely makes this a little bit more unusual. I love anything unusual and different and would love to try it.
