Are you thinking about what you are going to prepare for Christmas? If you don’t feel like cooking the traditional turkey, you might want to consider cooking a honey glazed ham in your Instant Pot. This recipe takes about an hour and a half, so it is indeed an ideal meal to cook if you do not have the luxury of time on your hands. If you love our Maple and Bourbon Glazed Ham, then you’ll love this Instant Pot staple!
This recipe will ensure that your family and guests will love you for serving a delicious and tender meal. The original recipe came from the Food Network, but I’ve made a few tweaks to make it savory and perfect for your Thanksgiving party.
Ingredients for Glazed Ham:
- Two cups of water
- One and a half cups of honey
- Half cup of orange marmalade
- One-third cup of Dijon mustard
- One-fourth cup of rye whiskey
- One piece of an eight-pound smoked half ham (make sure to ask the butcher to cut the ham into a size that will fit your Instant Pot)
What You’ll Need:
- Instant Pot Ultra Multi-cooker (you can check out this Instant Pot Ultra review)
- Kitchen twine
- Premium-grade foil
Prepare your ingredients. In a medium bowl, mix together the orange marmalade, honey, mustard, and whiskey. If you don’t have Dijon mustard, you can substitute it with yellow mustard or honey mustard. Make sure that they are combined thoroughly. Then, trim the ham. You have to make sure that it will fit the Instant Pot. Set aside the trimmings (you can also make a hearty sandwich from these to munch on while you work).
Get the kitchen twine and prepare it by criss-crossing one over the other, then carefully position the ham with the cut side down at the center of the foil. Make sure that most of the meat is fully covered with foil before carefully tying a tight knot around the ham.
Prepare the Instant Pot by setting a rack inside it and pouring in two cups of water. Place the ham into the container. The foil corners must be open to expose the meat. Carefully add the honey mixture before closing the foil corners again. Cover the pot. Make sure it is properly locked. Set the Instant Pot to high pressure for a solid 10 minutes.
Once the pressure-cook cycle is completed, do a quick release. Once this cycle is complete, then you can unlock and remove the lid. Remember that the Instant Pot can release hot steam, which can cause a burn on your hands.
Remove the ham from the pot and put it in a large bowl. Drain the glaze and the juice. Set it aside, then place the meat into a rimmed baking sheet. Keep it covered with foil and let it sit until it is ready for glazing.
To prepare the glaze:
With a pair of tongs, remove the metal rack from the pot. Remove the water. Then set the instant pot to saute on high before adding the honey mixture. Cook the glaze until it is reduced and syrupy. It should take you about 25 minutes or so.
Slice the ham and brush the glaze over the meat to make sure that each slice gets the glazing. Serve it hot.
Before you start cooking, make sure that you know how to use your Instant Pot. You must know how to lock the lid properly and when it is ready for cooking. It would also be useful to know what to look for to check if the quick release cycle is complete. This knowledge can save you from a lot of trouble and accidents while cooking.
