Post Workout Drink with Turmeric, Black Pepper and Chia Seeds

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

Here is a favourite post workout drink, basically a variation of the standard milk, fruit and protein powder mix that I have. I love to change it up some, living by no hard and fast rules. While I may believe in certain healthy principles, I would never be presumptious enough in thinking that my way is the right way. Research or not. After all, there is always new research coming up. All the time. Quite often paid by interested parties!

Post Workout Drink with Turmeric and Black Pepper

And, I most certainly am not preaching any health and fitness advice here either! Just a simple post workout drink recipe!

How to get the best out of this Post Workout Drink

Dairy

This post workout drink is dairy based, many of my workout drinks tend to be, as I think it creates a good foundation. But if you are dairy free, feel free to substitute water or even fruit juice for the milk, but if you count calories and all that (I don’t), be aware that fruit juices are going to be naturally higher in calories.

Yoghurt – I like to add some live yoghurt in the mix and only ever have natural, full fat. That’s up to you, I personally cannot stand the taste of fat free yoghurt.

Turmeric

I am a big believer in the health giving power of turmeric. Being Asian, I’ve always consumed it in some form or another. But a few years ago, I decided to up my intake and the almost immediate change I noticed is that I no longer suffer from sciatica. Click here to read more about the powers of turmeric.

Black Pepper

Black pepper is good in its own right, of course, but I use it here and elsewhere as a support to the tumeric. Pipperine, a black pepper alkaloid, increases the bioavailability of turmeric, by, apparently, as much as 2000%! What this means is that if you add a little black pepper everytime you consume turmeric, you’ll be increasing the absorption of the turmeric and all its goodness by your body!

Chia Seeds

These guys, despite their size, are a nutrition powerhouse! They are whole grain, as in they’re not sold hulled, they’re full of antioxidants and full of fiber.

The Fruit

Increase the amount or use different fruit, that’s up to you.

Now, let’s get our aprons on!
