For me, a dessert and a good coffee is a must to round off a good meal, my usual favourite is a Bailey’s Latte but this Russian coffee with Kahlua and Vodka, comes a close second. The addition of a layer of cream at the end is a wonderful indulgence and I quite often whip and pipe the cream instead, ala cupcakes.
I’ve had all types of Russian coffees, with Amaretto, with syrup, etc. This is my version, the way I like it!
Ingredients (for 1)
1 portion double espresso
30ml (2 tbsp) kahlua
15ml (1 tbsp) vodka
120ml hot whole milk
50-100ml double cream (whipped, if you want to pipe it on)
sugar, to taste, 2 tsp is always a good bet
Method
1. Pour the espresso into a latte glass or cappucino mug.
2. Add the kahlua, vodka, milk and sugar, if using and stir.
3. If not whipping the double cream, hold a teaspoon over the coffee and pour the cream on the spoon and let it flow onto the coffee until the coffee reaches the rim. This will ensure that the cream will form a layer. If using whipped cream, pipe it in swirls over the coffee. Please don’t be tempted to use cream out of a can, whipping your cream takes a minute, if that!
That was easy, wasn’t it?!
