200gCadbury's dairy milk or equivalent giant buttons (no breaking required!)
lots and lots AND LOTS of colourful mini eggs
1medium sized chocolate egg
Instructions
Break into pieces the 200g (7oz) of Cadbury's dairy milk bar and melt in the microwave for 60 - 120 seconds, stirring in between. If your microwave has a high wattage, like 1000w, do it at 80% power.
Let this melted chocolate cool somewhere cool, by a slightly open window would be good, while you go and get everything else ready.
Halve and sandwich the cake with the buttercream and jam. See instruction link above.
Decide which hole on the cake stand you're going to use (read instructions on the kit).
Assemble the anti gravity stand as per instructions on the kit, attaching tubing 1 to the base and securing with the nut on the bottom.
Push the madeira cake through the tube until it is flat on the base.
Connect the other 2 tubes as instructed on the kit and now you're ready for some messy fun!
But first, line the base by sliding some paper underneath the cake, as in the picture. We always do this before decorating a cake to stop the base from getting messy. Just get any plain copy paper type and cut in strips.
Coat the cake sides with the melted chocolate. You can coat the top or leave it bare as we did, so the mini eggs were just resting on the top and could be picked off.
After coating the sides, start building the nest by sticking the chocolate flakes all around as in the picture gallery above. The flakes will be sticking out, that's fine. Break the lat one on each line to size if you have to.
When the nest is built, take a spoon and just lightly drizzle some melted chocolate on the inside of the nest. This will ensure that the flakes stick to each other as the chocolate dries and the cake is sturdy.
Now, it's time to coat the pillar in the middle, the plastic tubing. Cover the whole tube with melted chocolate, then leave for 30 minutes to dry a little in a cool place.
Cover the top of the cake with mini eggs, making sure you have plenty left for the pillar.
After 30 minutes, when the melted chocolate on the tubing isn't runny anymore, start attaching the mini eggs all the way to the kink, as in pictures.
Leave to dry for another 30-60 minutes before you attempt to attach the large egg above.
Create a small opening at the smaller end of the chocolate egg and just very gently place it on the top of the tubing as in the picture.
Arrange chicks if using - TA-DA!
Notes
The time taken does not include the baking of the cake, if you are using homemade.
