A very seasonal protein smoothie, this Dairy Free Rhubarb Protein Smoothie has a touch of sweet and sour about it. As with many of my smoothie recipes, this one is consumed post workout. You can, however, have it anytime you fancy it, breakfast is always a good time for smoothies, for a power packed way to start your day.

You can also use whatever milk you fancy, soya, almond, rice, it’s completely up to you. I also add some protein powder to my smoothies, because for me, they are my workout nutrition, not meal replacement. You can do the same, or skip the protein powder if you like.

This Dairy Free Rhubarb Protein Smoothie came about because I saw some rhubarb lying around straight after my run yesterday evening, so I thought why not. And as with the other smoothies on this site, the picture is a no frill, get it done sort! Because let’s face it, after 3 sets of deadlifts, 3 sets of squats and a 5km run, last thing I wanted to do was to spend 10 – 15 minutes setting up a shot!

Ingredients

  • ½ a rhubarb
  • 125 ml soya milk or any milk of your choice
  • a handful strawberries
  • 1 – 2 servings protein powder to your needs
  • 1 tsp pumpkin seeds

Instructions

  • Chop the rhubarb up into chunks. You can lightly peel the rhubarb first to remove the slightly tougher outer layer, but I don’t bother.
  • Place everything into a blender and blend still smooth. That’s it.
